ABOUT ME

Ricardo Peña is a Mexican-born visual storyteller who was born and raised in Guadalajara, Mexico. At the age of 12, after being gifted a Sony Handycam as a christmas present, what started as a playful tool to capture his adventures- scaling mountains and climbing rocks- quickly turned into a lifelong pursuit of documenting the beauty of the world around him.

Inspired by Mexican cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, Ricardo is known for his experimentation with natural light, contrast and movement, bringing his unique visual style and cinematic depth to his filmmaking.

Now based in Vancouver, BC, Ricardo has honed his craft as a cinematographer bringing his dynamic style to indie films, music videos and documentaries. His blend of raw exploration and artistic curiosity has led to him also delving into the directing space with his debut short film Asshole.

From scaling Guadalajara’s mountains to directing on Vancouver’s urban sets, he aims to continue pushing creative boundaries, sharing stories that resonate deeply and visually inspire.
